Step 18: LED Connectors

Attach the LED Drive Activity Wires to Your Cheetah.

Consult your manual to identify the correct pins. The colored wire generally goes on the top pin,
and the black ground wire generally goes on the bottom pin.

Attaching Your LED Connectors

  1. Your Burly Enclosure has LED lights embedded in the front plastic bezel. They can be either amber, green, or red. Generally, drive activity LEDs are amber or red, as the power indicator LED is usually green

  2. If your LEDs are loose in the front plastic bezel, you can remove the front plastic bezel from the steel chassis and use a spot of hot glue from a glue gun to secure them. It is typically not necessary. If you choose to do this, simply examine the front bezel: you'll see that it is held onto the steel chassis by a few screws. Just pull them out and remove the front bezel for easy access to the LEDs.

  3. Consult your drive manual, or the legend on the top of your drive, to identify the drive LED pins. They are generally on the front of the drive, though most Seagate drives also have another set of LED pins on the rear of the drive, in a set of pins adjacent to the power connector. It is usually best to just use the two front LED pins, as they are relatively close to the LEDs themselves, and you won't have to stretch and route your wires through the inside of the enclosure. You can secure any excess wire you have with a twist ti0e.

  4. Typically, the drive LED pins are depicted with the ground on the lower pin, and the powered pin above it. As a result, you usually want to place the colored LED wire on the top pin, and the black ground wire on the bottom pin. If your LEDs don't flash appropriately when you access the drive, you may need to switch the wires. We like to place a small dab of hot glue from a glue gun on the LED wire connectors, so they are nice and snug.
