Admiring Your Drives

1. Your Seagate Cheetah drive is the fastest drive on the planet.

2. Even a single LVD Ultra2 Cheetah on a Miles2 will outperform many Ultra wide RAID in terms of sustained thruput and generally snappiness. We won't harangue you with specifics, as you can read all we have to say about Cheetahs on our Seagate drive page.

3. We will say this, however, about heat. LVD Cheetahs are reengineered versions of Seagate's pioneering Ultra wide Cheetahs. Single-ended Ultra wide Cheetahs were, without a doubt, the hottest drives ever manufactured in human history. LVD Ultra2 Cheetahs, on the other hand, pack more data on fewer platters, resulting in a slimmer form factor that emits far less heat than earlier versions. LVD Ultra2 Cheetahs, in fact, can be used internally in most Power Macs, with the exception of the bay on top of the power supply in the beige G3 MiniTower, the 8600, and the 9600. They are also too hot to stack together in the RAID rack in the PowerTower Pro.

4. Generally, as long as you give LVD Ultra2 Cheetahs a little room to breathe, and ensure that they have good airflow over the top and bottom surfaces of the drive, you'll be fine. In Burly Enclosures, LVD Ultra2 Cheetahs run wonderfully, as long as you have MAPHT2 Front Mount Auxiliary Fans working with the beefy fans in the enclosure backplane to draft cool air over the drives. These all-steel enclosures, with fans front and rear, actually chill your drives, improving their longevity and providing you with the absolute best in heat management. We have found no better option for enhancing the integrity and security of your data--and that's why we use these enclosures and fan kits ourselves.
