Lycom PCI-X SATAII Host Card
4 eSATA External Ports
RAID and Port Multiplier capable!
Supports up to 20 External Hard
Drives
Windows XP, 2000, 2003 server, Vista and Linux
- PCI-X Mac G5 running 10.4 or 10.5
Lycom’s
Port
Multiplier capable host cards are an excellent benefit to your computers
storage performance resulting in enormous scaleability. This card mounts
up
to 4 drives directly or up to 20 drives when attached to enclosures with Port
Multipliers such as the Burly
Port Multiplier Enclosures available here in 4, 5 and 8 Bay versions
as well as Rack Mount. This card fully supports RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1,
JBOD
and works with any SATA hardrive. Can be connected via a PCI-X bus running
at 100 or 133 mhz and will also function in a PCI slot at the slower bus
speed.
Not recommended in Mac G4s.
Capable of mounting the drives each independently or in any combination
of software RAID. You can even create huge and incredibly fast arrays across
multiple port multiplier systems for never before seen speeds and certainly
never before seen capacities on a direct connected host card. Very versatile
with great performance combined with the cost benefit of being able to attach
less expensive smaller capacity drives in greater numbers for a huge per GB
savings. The throughput from drives attached to these cards is exceptional giving
full 300 MB/sec access to each of the four SATAII specification eSATA ports.
Compatible
with:
- Windows XP, 95, NT, 98SE, ME, 2000, 2003 Server, DOS and Vista
- Mac OS 10.4 in PCI-X G5s
- Linux 32 and 64 bit versions
This
host card has eSATA Ports:
eSATA, a new external connection method for the
SATA specification, is used on this card. More robust and better grounded, these
connectors are the choice for external connected storage. Be aware though, confusion
is also going to be common as the eSATA connectors are VERY similar
in appearance to the current SATA Type A connectors more commonly being used.
Use of an eSATA to eSATA external cable is currently needed to connect
to the MacGurus Burly Enclosure. Be sure to select eSATA cables when
ordering a companion Burly to go with your Lycom host card.

Note: Mac users
must download a driver available
here for the card to be recognized. Download driver
version 2.0.3. Once the card has been physically installed, unzip
the file and run the Sil3124 Mac OS X installer. Verify that the card is
recognized by
System Profiler in the "Hardware/PCI Cards" location. It will be
seen as "pci1095,3124". Attach the drive enclosure and power it
up. Your drives should be available in Disk Utility to be Formatted, Zeroed
Out and renamed. You may also create a software RAID 0 (Striped) or RAID 1
(Mirrored) array in Disk Utility.
