  The MacGurus Burly Firewire Enclosure has an internal power supply, cooling fan and an all steel case. The exception to todays plethora of junky plastic enclosures with no cooling, less than minimum power from those bricks and no life span at all in their drives. Quality, performance and a environment meant for longevity for your drives was our only priorities in the development of this enclosure.

  We found the fastest bridge board, the Oxford 924, and married it to the one enclosure that met all our criteria. Using SATA drives gives it performance unheard of. Matching that with Firewire 800 gives you the most performance you can get today from a single Firewire drive.

  Absolutely the finest Firewire drive you can get for Time Machine, Apple's new backup system. Stick a big backup drive in your Burly 1 Bay and attach it to any computer running Leopard - designate it as the Time Machine backup drive and let 'er run. Time Machine will update the backup every hour, all day and all night. The Burly is completely capable of keeping your backup drive up and safely running 24 hours a day.

  This is the perfect high speed storage for your iMac, Powerbook or new Intel MacBook. External bootable storage for any native Firewire Mac. Fully compatible with Firewire 400 or Firewire 800 ports with the greatest speed possible on both. The Oxford 924 bridge also incorporates a high speed, 480 Mb/sec USB2.0 port for those needing that capability. We recommend Firewire for the most efficient data transfers. USB2 is a bit less capable bus, never designed with hard drive data transfers in mind. It works fine, but Firewire works better giving you the most extreme in high performance.

Options:

  Installed Hard Drives from Seagate or Hitachi. You can get your Burly with or without hard drive installed. These are top of the line retail drives with either a 5 year (Seagate) or 3 year (Hitachi) warranty. We will have our technicians install and test any hard drive, either by selecting an enclosure with a hard drive here or by selecting any SATA hard drive from MacGurus SATA Hard Drive page.
