Default Video card for g5

hello my dear Gurus
i need to replace my 19"monitor

i'm thinking of Lacie 324 or Hp 2475w both 24" both 1920 x 1200

will my G5 dual 2ghz PCI x (PowerMac7,3) with ATI Radeon 9600 XT 128Mb

support that resolution or i need to buy a new card??

ALSO IF I WANT TO REPLACE THE (AGP ATI Radeon 9600 XT 128Mb) VIDEO CARD WHICH ONE COULD BE GOOD TO ACHIEVE THE FULL HD

AS A LOCAL PC DEALER TOLD ME THAT TO HAVE FULL HD THE CARD MUST BE 1000MHZ,
MY USE OF THE MONITOR AND COMPUTER IS FOR WORK(WEB DESIGN, PHOTOSHOP, ILLUSTRATOR, LITTLE VIDEO EDITING - NOT GAMING OR WATCHING MOVIES)
IS FULL HD RELEVANT TO ONLY WATCHING MOVIES AND GAMING OR ALSO TO PHOTOSHOP ETC?

always thanks for your help!

Roberto

Greetings. Happy to express a few opinions.

1) I am not a big fan of anything LaCie. They have the corner on the 'build it cheap' business model. In everything they do, LaCie excels at nothing.

There are some good buys from other manufacturers. Heck, one of our workstations even has a Dell monitor attached.. Was the best buy for the quality at the time. Worked fine now for several years. My one complaint was it was hugely far off from any kind of color replication. Took an incredible amount of work to get it anywhere even near to useful, let alone accurate. But once adjusted it has been rock stable.

On Mac host cards you are going to find choices are few. Maybe two ATI cards (9600 and 9800) and one nVidea card made still that you can plug in. I have to get something for one of our G5s, the search has been pretty tough and the list is pretty short. I'll post more once I figure out what looks best for us.

Rick

thanks...
i knows for example that lacie HD not good etc.. but on the monitors they are listed as one of the best alongside DELL EIZO NEC and others not really available in Italy!

Dell ultrasharp 24 looks very good on the specs but the reviews are not as good, tint problems

eizo and nec very high prices

hp is good but i read some reviews not convincing , not many but...

lacie no bad reviews and there is a local shop that sell them and is on display for any test before buying

i have to say that it looks very good the color are fantastic the deepness of the image is excellent

i don't know how the have built this very high reputation with the monitors while the rest is zero

there must be a reason ..somewhere

The difference is in the panel. Most brands, including Dell, are trying to satisfy most consumers who big, fast, and cheap. Good color but great color.

FWIW, I read good things about the Lacie monitors regarding color matching, along with Eizo and Apple. But I cannot offer an opinion, as I am colorblind. Lots of good general use panels out there, but most are not made for precise color matching.

As for HD thing, to the best of my knowledge, that is only related to video. Don't sweat it.

Video is tuff, as Rick said. Only a couple official choices. Beyond those, you can consider a flashed PC card, but that is a whole other challenge.

If you want a good Apple monitor.....sell that G5 and get yourself a new iMac. . Faster, quieter, good panel, good price. full HD video ready. As long as you are ready for 10.6........I think you will need CS 3 as a minimum.

thank you!
found out that my mac will support the 1920 x 1200 resolution
now i have to decide for the monitor
wichi is more and more confusing ..so many models and opinions, and plus nowhere to go (locally) to see them at work

probably a nec or eizo or hp...don't think of lacie anymore!
