Thought I'd better get-on with this post, before a different personality kicks-in ............... maybe .... it already has!!!!
We all have a free pass ........ on the ship of fools!
NEC 23" IPS EA231WMi monitor:
Here is a quick review/contribution to this thread:
IPS verses TN panels:
First, read this thread to get an overall feel for the monitor and its quirks (what few there are).
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1436160
PROS:
1. No dead pixels.
2. Picture is crisp and beautiful. Text is crisp and blu-rays look great. DVD...well.... look like DVD's ..... I bought it for PS and camera!
3. The stand and housing are great. No reflective, shiny business going on here. A very sturdy stand.
4. Brightness adjustability is good.
5. I just keep the monitor in sleep mode or have the screen saver on.
6. Comes with a DVI and vga cable.
7. Sturdy packaging for no worries shipping.
CONS:
1. Color uniformity can be, I'm not sure if this would be an issue had I not read through this thread. My monitor is definitely not as bad as others, but just knowing that it has a little bit of an issue bugs me. But not enough to return the monitor and "play the lottery".
2. Backlight bleed. Not to bad with this monitor.... but it is there. Unfortunately, this is a problem with all LCD monitors (some to a greater extent than others). I't doesn't distract while watching movies or basically anything.
3. No HDMI to DVI cable included....... Cheap-ooooooos!
4. Have to download the users manual.
So basically, the monitor is not perfect.... but with LCDs none are .... unless you want to spend upwards of $3-4000.00.
Gamers beware!!
Respones time is 14ms. I don't think you would be satisfied .... if your into FAST paced games! ....... but, I don't play games .... but .... I watch a lot of fast action movies.
I have never used the monitor .... in game mode (which it has) so I really can't say for sure! .... but, have read, pretty darn GOOD!
For $330.00 to my door, I'm quite impressed.

Keep in mind, that this is my first LCD .... but .... I have some basic requirements that have to prevail!
All I can really say is .... I'm satisfied for quality verses price verses RGB color set!
If you want to know what you monitor is doing color wise .... Make a screen of different grays .... stand back and look .... are both sides the same shade or are they different? and what about RGB?
Try as white screen.
Your probable not all that interested .... and it might just spoil you day ..... so beware!!
Keep in touch!
Good talking to ya .... BYE!
